On December 13, 2024, the initial conference of the CROSSNET project was held at the Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb. The conference was opened by the representative of the Prime Minister of Republic of Croatia and State Secretary Sanja Bošnjak, director of the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Tomislav Petrinec, Advisor for the Implementation of the European Semester Judita Cucelić Župa, Dean of the Faculty of Science Mirko Planinić, head of the Geophysics Department Maja Telišman Prtenjak, head of the Croatian Seismological Service Ines Ivančić and CROSSNET project manager Tomislav Fiket.
The project implementation period is from December 2021 to June 2026. The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Fund for Regional Development, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and the total value of the Project is €13,365,741.69.
The goal of the CROSSNET project is to strengthen the infrastructural and organizational capacities of the Seismology Service to increase the quality of the collection, processing, and application of seismic data necessary for building reconstruction, planning the construction of new buildings, and monitoring public infrastructure. The project also aims to strengthen Croatia’s resistance to earthquakes and related risks.
Nikolaus Horn from GeoSphere Austria and Izidor Tasič from the Environment Agency of the Republic of Slovenia (ARSO) presented their national seismological networks and the challenges they encountered when setting them up in interesting lectures.
Project associates Viktorija Milec, Marko Pervan and Marko Kapelj presented the project goals and achievements so far. Some achieved goals are the procurement of instruments and official vehicles, creation of factor maps and spatial analyses, creation of applications for monitoring inventory and work orders, 128 performed microseismic noise measurements and 37 selected potential locations for permanent stations.
