We are pleased to share news from our latest fieldwork in the southern Adriatic, where the CROSSNET team successfully carried out a series of recovery and redeployment operations for ocean bottom seismometers (OBS) in the Dubrovnik Basin and around Palagru\u017ea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OBS instruments record seismic and acoustic signals on the seafloor and return to the surface when a release signal is sent from the vessel. Recovery operations ran continuously, day and night, to make the most of the time at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three instruments were recovered from the Dubrovnik Basin, a deep tectonic depression in the southern Adriatic that is of great interest for studying crustal structure and regional seismicity. These instruments recorded seismic activity in this sector throughout their deployment period, and the collected data will contribute to a better understanding of the geodynamics of this part of the Adriatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of five instruments were deployed at new locations. Three OBS were placed in the Dubrovnik Basin, an area whose geodynamic activity makes it key to understanding crustal deformation processes at the boundary of the Adriatic microplate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remaining two instruments were deployed near Palagru\u017ea, an isolated island group in the central part of the southern Adriatic. Located far from the mainland, this area is an important point for monitoring offshore seismic activity and provides data that complement the observation network across the entire Adriatic. The instruments placed here will measure seismic activity in the coming period, and the data collected will help improve understanding of tectonic processes in this part of the Adriatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
